West African Dwarf Goats are small, compact goats originating from West and Central Africa. Despite their small size (12–25 kg), they are remarkably productive relative to their body weight — producing milk rich in butterfat (6–7%) and growing kids that reach market weight efficiently.

Dwarf goats are exceptionally resistant to trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness), making them invaluable in tsetse-endemic areas of West and Central Africa where larger cattle breeds cannot survive. Their small size makes them manageable by women and children — an important consideration for smallholder programmes.

They are increasingly popular in urban and peri-urban agriculture, where land constraints make larger livestock impractical.
