Pygmy Goats originated in the Cameroon Valley of West Africa and are closely related to West African Dwarf goats. They are characterised by their compact, cobby body shape, wide barrel, and short legs relative to body size — creating a distinctive, low-slung appearance.

Despite their small stature, Pygmy Goats are productive meat animals when managed correctly. Their docile, friendly temperament makes them ideal as entry-level goats for new farmers — easy to handle, fence, and manage without extensive infrastructure.

Pygmy Goats are also used in community development programmes as a form of protein banking for rural families, given their low cost and ease of management.
