Wagyu (Japanese: 'Japanese cattle') are a group of Japanese cattle breeds — primarily Kuroge Washu (Japanese Black) — that produce the world's most prized beef, characterised by extraordinary intramuscular fat marbling that creates a melt-in-the-mouth texture and rich, buttery flavour.

Authentic Wagyu beef is graded on a scale of A1-A5 for yield and 1-12 for marbling. A5-BMS12 Wagyu, the highest grade, can sell for R8,000+ per kilogram retail. Raising Wagyu is an art form — animals are fed specially formulated diets, managed with low-stress handling, and given longer feeding periods (26-30 months vs 18 months for standard beef cattle).

Life Global Farm's Wagyu programme uses fullblood Wagyu genetics imported from Australia and Japan. These animals represent a premium investment for producers targeting luxury restaurant and export markets.
