Blackhead Dorper is the original Dorper type — named for the distinctive black head and neck on a white body, inherited from the Black-headed Persian parent breed. This colouring is iconic in South African sheep farming and is widely recognised as the archetypal 'karoo sheep.'

Blackhead Dorpers carry exceptional meat genetics — broad, muscular loins and hindquarters that yield premium cuts. Their self-shedding coat means minimal input costs, and their ability to thrive on sparse Karoo vegetation makes them economically viable in difficult environments.
